CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
If you're 17 and older, an A1 licence allows you to loose your L plates, use a scooter or a small motorcycle, and carry a pillion.
A two-day course that doesn't require any tests. It's a great introduction to riding, with a focus on reviewing the fundamental components of a bicycle and slow control exercises.
Compulsory basic training (CBT)
CBT is the initial course that all riders who are new to riding must attend. It typically takes a full day to complete. If you reach an acceptable level at the end of the course, your instructor will issue you a DL196 certificate of successful completion.
In this class you will learn the fundamentals of operating the motorcycle. You will be guided throughout the day by a highly experienced instructor. You'll also receive a short theoretical session that will instruct you about the code of conduct and the rules of the road as well as safe and safe lane positioning. For example, if you're driving along the road and you notice a car pulling out towards your path, you will have to be able to react quickly.
You'll also be expected to show good control at a slow speed, such as being able to pull away smoothly, stop with confidence and maintain speed. You should be able to demonstrate good braking, and execute an uncontrolled U-turn when necessary.
Finally you'll be assessed on your ability to signal and shift gears. You'll be asked to signal when you are overtaking a vehicle, or exiting a road and to change gears when needed.
Once you've passed both parts of the Module 2 test, you'll be sent your A1 license in the mail. You'll then be able to ride your new bike around the countryside or commute to work in style and in comfort. Licensing
This course is intended for those who have already completed Module 1 & 2 and are looking to improve their riding abilities and build a relationship with their bike. It will include more advanced training and activities such as leaning the bike in order to control it at higher speeds. If you are not yet 18 You will need your parent or guardian to sign the Covid Release and Waiver of Indemnification form (click here) along with the Motorcycle Safety Program Parent/Guardian Agreement. Your parent or guardian will also have to complete the MSF electronic course prior to taking your BRC course.
